Default replace head bolts?

LS1:
I can't recall where I read this, but, do I need to replace my head bolts after taking my head off? And if so, is the dealer the only place to get them at?

Yes, the stock head bolts are torque to yeild, which means you can only use them once. Some of the sponsers on the site also cary them.

Or just get the ARP studs, they are very nice, and you can reuse them.

Actually it is only necessary to replace the long ones, but most kits have them all.
Go with ARP, IMO. A little more expensive but stronger and none of that stretch to yield crap. Just trq to specs in the right sequense.

ARP head bolts or studs depending on your application are re-usable. The OEM GM headbolts need to be replaced after they are stretched aka TTY. I went with the ARP head bolts because I knew I would be removing heads in the future.

I also went with the ARP bolts. The studs may be best if you have extra cash but I don't plan on removing the heads THAT often. Besides being stronger, the ARP's aren't TTY so you're not putting obscene amounts of torque on your block threads, so you have less chance of galling them up.

I've got to buy a set too, which sponser should I start with? I'm going Futral cam kit, does Futral resell ARP also?

Anyway, I just want to keep my business with the sponsers

if you decide to stay with tty i have an extra set i could sell ya. If you're not going to be pulling heads more than once or twice i would go with stockers, but if you plan on spraying or what not and will eventually fry a head gasket i'd go with arp stud kit.
