which timing chain is preffered... if there is a preference
like the title says im in the middle of ordering parts for cam install and wanted to know what brand timing chain people use or like.
comp
jwis
just to name some but which ones do you guys prefer?
I also need to know if I will need any new gaskets when doing the cam swap.
if this matters I only have 24xxx miles on car

LS2 chain, get it from SDPC I paid $28 for mine.
As far as gaskets, I would a cam swap gasket kit from one of the sponsors, not too expensive. Water pump gaskets, timing cover gasket and the rubber seal around the crank snout, I think that's it. Most of them are supposed to be reusable, but it's best to replace them IMO.

It's better cause the links are thicker. If I was building the engine on a stand i'd probably go with the double roller cause it would be easier to deal with the oil pump and extend the hole on the pickup tube bracket. Otherwise i'd just get the ls2. Chances are you won't have a problem with either chain, it's just one is harder to install and more expensive.
Oh yeah, the other thing that turns me off about the double roller is it doesn't bend enough to get it off the cam gear without moving the oil pump.

LS2, or JWIS. for non adjustable.
JWIS= ~$150
LS2= $32
Double rollers are overkill, not to mention the oil pump shims, pain to install, crank sproket removal, pulley clearance.
On a low miles engine, sprokets are in good condition so LS2/JWIS are easier and plenty.
This issue is a bandwagon sme as the 918 "beehive" single VS dual spring issue for anything .600 or smaller.

The LS2 chain wasn't out yet when I got my JWIS though. It would have been a tough choice for sure.

well.. on my 2000 z28 that I had.. I used a double chain from MTI....
I think it was a rollmaster?? but I dont remember....
I bought it after a buddy of mine broke his single chain(which he bought as a replacement for his stocker when he did his cam change) he was always at the track...always spinning higher RPM's....
I figured the extra insurance was good for the $$$
and I figure the pro's do it...so I would too....
it was not hard to change.....
it was not hard to do the shimms....
I didnt have to do any wierd modifications to th eoil pump or pickup tube....
and I was putting on an ls6 pump proted and polished anywyas...so the pump had to come off anyways....
when I do a cam on this car..... I will again do the double chain
