Default 100 mile oil change after cam install?

Some one told me that I would have to change my oil 100 miles after my cam install in order to clean out any debris that might have accumilated. Is there any truth to this?

You should not get any debri after a cam shap, this statement is false and should just wait to change your oil at 3k miles.

Yea, I did 500 miles only because I did new rod bearings and rod bolts at the same time.

2-3k should be fine.

I think you'll get 420rwhp+.
I don't change the oil during the cam swap. I do after about 300 miles, to check for metal shavings or debris that might be coming from the new cam.

It doesn't hurt to change the oil after a cam swap. Not as essential as after a head swap, but its usually better to break a cam (even a roller) with straight dino oil (not syn) for the first 250 miles or so, then go back to synthetic.

The absolute hardest moment for a cam after install though is the first 5 seconds before the oil gets to it. Make sure it is well oiled.

If it were me i would absolutely change the oil 100 miles after a cam swap! With a new cam you're going to use assembly lube right? I'd want to flush that out of there pretty soon, as well as any dirt which probably got into the engine during the swap.

I'd still change it soon though, just because of the possibility of getting some dirt and dust in there during the cam swap.

I agree, I have a cam swap goign on with my car early next week. It's about 40 miles from the garage to my house, I figured I'd drive it home, swing by a buddy of mine's houes on the way to extend the trip another 20 miles, and change when I get home.

No matter what kind of oil you use, or what you are having done to your car.... if the motor was apart, it's always a good idea to change the oil after.

On a related note... patman, which filter has the highest flow for our cars ( that you can pick up in a local auto parts store ) ? With the intervals that I change my mobil 1 0-40wt, ( every 1500 or so miles, which is about 3 months with me ) I'm not as concerned about the filtering as I am the flow. Thanks.

Go for the K&N oil filter if you want one that flows extremely well! That's the only filter I use on my cars.

Definitely. In fact you're better off using the dino oil since it's cheaper. No sense running expensive synthetic for such a short interval.

We put some Exxon Superflo in and a fresh filter. A few heat cycles were done on it, and good oil and a filter were put then used. Added about another $10-15 to a cam swap. It can't hurt to do it.
