Default Eagle rod help, engine assemblers inside

Hi,
I put the motor today and i had called eagle and they gave me a torque spec on the rod studsof 63ftlbs.

Any one ever used the eagle rods? there I beams with studs in them, i hvae it all together and it doesnt want to spin, so im thinking that the rod torqe is too high, what do you all think

I obviously dont want these to come out, so i was wondering if anyone else had done this and if they knew their torque specs?
thanks

That rod torque sounds right. If you loosen the main caps will the engine turn? The rods should have a slight amount of side play front to back, around .015-.020. Should be able to grab 2 rods like a sandwich and wiggle them front to back. Are you sure the main caps are on right, position 1-5 in there place and the numbers on the side of the caps are all on the same side except 5 is oposing the others.

yeah, the main caps are are in, i had the motor assembled originally by a shop, i went from high to low comp, and didnt touch the crank or mains.

If your talking about the rod caps, then i am pretty sure there all right, but I am going to go and redo it all to make sure. Im gonna put the rest of the pistons in and check the caps and make sure everything is correct.

thanks for the help kurt, i cant imagine what could be the issue, i just dont want to strip out the crank bolt sa then im really screwded

make sure none of the rods are on backwards.
The large chamfer needs to face the fillet.

If its a 4 inch crank, look for trigger wheel clearance to the piston. This will only be a problem on #8.

Thumbs up

Like Kurt said you probably have the main caps on backwards or the thrust bearing on the crank on main cap number 3 is frozen up. With the stock crank with rolled fillets there is no chamfer to hit even if the rods are hung or installed backwards but the pins may be off center and hitting the pin bosses on one side if the rods are normal SBC rods. Of course this depends on the pin boss spacing or width. If this happens it could be cocking all the pistons sideways in the bores and locking them up as well as wearing all the rod bearings on one side since they will be cocked sideways as well.

Machine shops screw up all the time. I actually put some of my pistons on the rods backwards on mine as I was doing it. I didn't pay any attention to the F on the top of the piston that was supposed to put going to the front so when I put the pisons in the F was going the wrong way. LOL

The rods have to sit on the journel correctley like stated above. the slanted part of the cap and rod have to match the outside of the journel. If even one of the rods doesn't do this it will lock up. In other words the pistons are probably on the rods right but you have one of them turned around backwards or the rod is not pointing the right direction and that case if the pistons is pointed in the right direction then the piston is on the rod backwards. Just look at it really hard.

Have you checked the bearing clearances?

well I think that I have figured it out, the rods have a casting on one side of them and not on the other, i took it apart today and when i face the cast towards the back its fine, so I am assuming that the casting onthe pass side goes towards the back, would that mean the drivers sdie would face forward??

anyway the machine shop has 7 pistons with casting forward, and 1 back, so they either did 1 wrong or 3 wrong

any ideas off of that
thanks
