Default Performance of g5x-2 with LS6 style heads vs stock heads?

Alright guys. I just had my FFHP LS6 style heads installed and cam put in. My can is a 230/236 592/602 XER grind on a 112. Well, with my setup, I wanted to get some great lope out of the car. Guess what... my car sounds like it's running a stock cam and I find that very weird with a cam that big.

I have made the decision to take that one out and switch to a g5x2 to pick up that lope that I thirst for. The g5x2 is a tad bigger of course. I have read and talked about the x2 being made to run with stock heads. I am wondering how it would perform with my LS6 style heads since it was made for a stock head car? These heads are unmilled with 59cc chambers for 11.2:1 compression.

(Note: I've searched on this with no results)

Thanks

your cam has 9* overlap vs -36* with the stock cam. if you cant hear lope your expectations were to high. the x2 112 on a 112 has 12* overlap, on a 114 its got 8*, if you cant hear a huge difference from -36* to 9* what makes you think 9* to 12* will make a huge difference.

whats your exhaust setup?

what valve size did you get with the heads?

Trust me. There is no lope in it at all. FFHP did my h/c install and even Brad thinks that it doesn't lope, along with several other of my LS1 friends who have cams. It should lope, but of course doesn't. It is very weird. I am running dual cutouts right now. I capped it up and it still sounds like it idles stock. My tuner (Alex Procter) set the idle at 550 to test it and it idles just like stock. No surging or anything. It's set at 750 right now.

Maybe they forgot to swap the cam or installed the wrong one.

It's been good. I am only running around on a street tune at the moment. It feels like it has power all throughout. Once you hit about 6200 it seems to hit a different level of power that kicks in. It's a very weird feeling. It also has that "cammed" car sound. I can't describe it. It just has that tone to it when driving (I'm not talking about idle). That definately tells me that it is not the stock cam. I seen them put the new one in myself. But what is getting me is why is it not loping? It is a 4 degree grind if that makes a difference.

Back to the main question: Since the g5x2 was made to run on stock heads, how will the performance be when adding my set of LS6 style heads into the equation?

Thanks

I am currently running the X-2 on stock heads, and there is no denying that I have a "MONSTER" cam in there.

Can't wait to see what numbers I put down when the AFR's get installed.

I still say something is up. That cam should be bumpin its as off. Im thinking its the wrong cam that got installed, something smaller than what was supposed to go in.

i'd also have to agree not the right cam..switched somewhere.not that i ever do it but one of the purposes of degreeing a cam is to verify all the specs on the cam card so you know what cam is being installed.

I've heard this cam in person and it really does idle like stock. It pulls pretty hard, seems to be the perfect sleeper cam. Something is definetly up with it though. It should bump hard with those specs but it just doesn't.

I agree with the majority here... either the wrong cam was installed, or the cam was stamped incorrectly to begin with and is smaller than what you expected.

Ive heard the X2 on a 112 and it sounds mean.
There is markings on the cam to signify that its an x2, no? Im almost positive there is, pull that sucker out and have a look.

The earlier X2 cams DO NOT have markings. Mine didn't. And yes, the thing bumps HARD, there is no way that it wouldn't, even with a good tune. The wrong cam was installed.

just to clarify, the cam in the car at the moment is NOT the X2, it is a 232/238 .595/.605 112 +4 (or is supposed to be). ICL is at 108* IIRC. now with that said the cam in the car should lope pretty damn hard as it has about 11* of over lap, but it does not it idles very smoothly. below 2000rpm the car is a dog but at about 2500rpms it starts to come alive in an eye opening way. the car is coming back to us for some other reasons and we are going to re-check the specs to see what is up. to say the least it is odd

Like Scott (Demon) said, the cam in the car now is not the X2. It's a 230/236 .592/.602 112 grind that is currently in my car. Something is definately up, no doubt. I think FFHP is going to definately have it cam doctored. I'm sure it will come back as something different. Nonetheless, it will make someone one helluva sleeper cam.
