A LOT of people on this board have done them. There are several writeups around the internet with step by step instructions on how to do it. Someone might have a link.

ive never done one... but if my car wasnt my everyday driver id do it myself...

for the first time id be prepared to spend 3 days on it... because i think it will be very lengthy and youll have to be patient.

good luck!

I think the Cam swap itself is easy. Here are some examples of what not to do, from a board member's mechanic.

It's not technically hard- just time consuming. The important thing is to read as much as possible and have all the right tools. Read the ls1howto writeup and read as many posts on the subject as possible. And don't skimp on the tools! It will cost you but it will be worth it.

I echo this post. I did my swap pro'lly 3 months ago now and my car was a daily driver at the time. I did headers at the same time. Its not that hard to do, just time consuming. Very time consuming. Look under your hood. You need to take out the radiator and lift the ac aside to do it. The hardest part for me was swaping the oil pump if you decide to do so. the pickup tube bolt is a real bitch to get at (re-installing). Its the hardest part of the operation. Correct way to replace oil pump is to drop oil pan but that involves a whole bunch of sheat that you dont want to get into so we cheat and loosen the oil pan bolts and drop it without de-taching it. Putting the oil pickup tube bolt back in was the hardest thing for me. my hands were almost to big but I got it done. After that everything really was a breeze. Lifting the radiator out can be a chore as well but its not hard to do if you have two people. I didnt. The tools made the difference with the valve spring swap. Use the crane tool. Best tool on the market. Well worth the money, in my opinion. Also use a compressor to hold the valves up. Its a lot easier and fool proof, than the TDC and nylon rope method.

thank jrp for the time and effort he's put into his web pages, without his info I wouldnt have done the swap myself, or even thought about it.

The biggest tip you can get is to just take your time, pay attention, and follow the instructions to a "T"

But be flexible. Not everything will be exactly the same as the ls1howto instructions.
