Default Any increase in idle pressure after pump change ?

Has anyone noticed an increase in the idle oil pressure after changing to a ported pump ? If so how much of an increase.
Thanks, JIM

probably depends on wether or not it was shimmed... However, I dont know if shimming even affects idle pressure.

Theoretically, if you increase volume (porting) then you will reduce pressure.

Doesn't the pressure regulator/bypass spring reside in the pump? Any change in spring pressure or orifice size would effect pressure.

You would only reduce pressure inside the pump housing. Oil pressure is measured outside the oump housing, after the ported exit.

I'm talking about pressure outside of the pump. If you enlarge the exit then you would reduce the pressure while increasing the volume.

Edit: On second thought...Since the oil galley remains constant you would see higher pressure since there would be more volume in the same container.

Thanks, JIM

5-10lbs........a ported pump can flow more oil than a non ported pump........

(old engine)....stock LS6 pump gave 60psi max.....nothing changed but to a home (I did it) ported LS6 pump the max came up to 70psi max........no shim, just more volume......

the bypass can only bypass "X" amount of oil..........

The information that I am looking for is from people that have made the change from a stock pump to a ported pump or shimmed. I like to base my info on facts from people that have made the change. It is nice to guess or think in theory but I am looking for hard facts. I just want to do it right the first time.
Thanks for the info so for.

I made the change and I didn't see any change in pressure at idle. Stock pump to ported, unshimmed ls6 pump.

When I did my h/c swap, I put in a ported pump. I lost 5 to 7 psi across the board. I talked to a local tuner that was dynotuning it for me and they said you needed to shim them to get more pressure. I pulled the pump, shimmed it, and gained 7 to 10 psi over the original non-ported version.

Thanks to all that replyed. I received my new pump yesterday and I have just finished porting it. While I was at it I placed a .105 thou. shim that I made out of S/S washers under the spring. It will be installed on Wed. if I get my lazy *** under the car. Will report the results.
