Install new oil pump on '02 SS, yay or nay?
Alright guys I'm really on the fence about this one. I'm getting ready to install the TR 224 cam and am finishing up gathering all the parts. My car only has 44,000 miles on it. I've been doing a lot of reading and know the '01+ cars came with the so-called LS6 oil pump.
Should I go ahead and get a new pump from GM for $60 or just re-use my stock one? I really don't feel like spending twice the amount for a ported one when I don't really "need" it.
What do you guys think?

I did the ported one this weekend. I only have 27K on an 02, but I have a large cam and thought it would be a good idea. I also did a double timing chain so I had to take off the pump anyway. I have much better oil pressure now but it was not worth the install time. If your not doing a timing chain then don't do it. If you are doing a timing chain, the pumps coming off anyway, why not upgrade while its off.

I am replacing the timing chain with an LS2 piece so the pump is coming off.
I checked my oil pressure today while I went and got some food: ~60 psi at start up and running ~60-70 with normal driving.
