Default Carbon on the pistons

When you are doing a head swap, do you scrape the carbon off of the pistons? Is there any advantage/disadvantage to this?

I've only done one head swap and I left it alone. I've heard you can cause hot spots if you don't clean them right.

Yes, clean them off, and clean out any residue b/w the piston and cylinder when done. Carbon will cause hot spots. Dont use a harsh abrasive, or wire brush that can scratch the cylinder if you slip, use something like a green scrubbie pad with light pressure and care.

Depending on how stubborn it is, carburetor cleaner will usually take it right off.
