Default Does anyone use Oil additive such as Lucus, slick 50 etc..

My change Oil light came on yesterday so I will be chaning it soon. I guess My first ? would be should the computer have been reset when My oil was changed last? I was 3k miles ago and mobil 1 5w30? Also I was thinking about doing an addititve such as Lucus stabilizer or slick 50. And lastly what what oil is everyone using 0w30, 5w3, 20w50 etc...

Thanks in advance

I use German Castrol Syntec 0W-30 during the off-season, and Mobil-1 15W-50 during road course events.

I'd steer clear of the additives you listed, especially Slick-50. I'm currently experimenting with 6oz of Torco MPZ additive in my 0W-30 fill but I won't have oil analysis data on it until May timeframe.

Mobil-1 0W-40 seems to be a good all-around oil for LS1 engines based on bobistheoilguy.com postings.

there are already detergents in oil. adding more will screw things up, and hurt far more than help.

Unless you are buying some noname oil from china, i wouldn't touch additives.

If you use a high quality oil (I use Amsoil 5w-30) you don't need to use an additive at all. Stay away from Slick 50 and Prolong FWIW.

I would never use anything like Slick 50 or Lucas products in my car. Just pick a good oil and that is all you need. Then every 50 or 60k run a dose of Auto-rx in the engine to keep it perfectly clean.

I mix Lucas heavy oil with the dino oil when I refilled my Moser 9", but thats an application where additives are almost required. I'd never run additives in my motor. Just synthetic oil, either GC or Mobil 1.

I just changed mine and threw in some Lucas Synthetic Additive I found. Figured it might quiten down the valvetrain noise a little, but I haven't had time to run my car other than to make sure I had pressure, so I can't say yet.
