Anyone running a FM14 on stock 3.42 gears? Anyone running a M6, FM14 cam on stock 3.42 gears? Is it a dog down low? I was going to put 3.73 gears in when I did the cam but I figured if the stock gears are good enough for the FM14, then I won't bother. Any input would be apperciated. Thanks.

God I feel sorry for you in you plan on running that size cam on stock 3.42's. #1 your clutch is gonna take a beating from you slipping it to get the car moving, aka taking off easy from a stopsign. BTW give me the name of the person who told you the F14 would be fine on stock gears as they are smoking some good ****!

Not to highjack your thread, but what about the F13 cam with stock gears?? I plan to swap in a 12 bolt with 4.10s this winter, but will I be OK with 3.42 gears this year?

If you want to nit pick, the stock cam dosnt even have enough low end for the stock 3.42s. The 4.10s have been one of my favorite mods so far, do the gears and you wont regret it. As far as how drivable the f14 will be? Well, I dont think itll be that much worse than the stock cam already is. 3.73s should give you back 9% or 10% in applied torque, roughly in line with what youll lose in off idle torque.

Well not to dispute everyone and their comments here, but I am running a F15 with stock 3.42's (stock 10 bolt) and a Mcleod single disk. I have no complaints at this point, cept I do get a little hesitation when launching at 5.5K on slicks at the track
. No my rear has not broken, amazingly enough and have pulled 1.65's in the 60'. All in all still pulling mid 11's at 119/120mph and the street characteristics are amazing on a non-existant tune. The low end torque of this cam is handicapping my gear situation and has made it down right awesome. Will I upgrade? No.. but that is due to me installing my turbo shortly. 
If I was not going FI I would keep it at 3.73 for a good balance of track and street performance.
FWIW I would not hesitate putting the f14 or my f15 with stock gears again, very good characteristics on the street. Just my .02.

It'll be fine, but the gear really helps driveability. I sold my 12 bolt w/ 4.11's and my heads and am now running the stock rear with 3.42's. Still has plenty of power down low, it's not hard on the clutch, and now I at least have SOME traction in 1st gear. You just won't really be able to use 6th gear until after 60mph. I'm most likely going to put 3.73 or 4.10 in the stock rear though sometime in the future.

Mine drives fine, i'm sure 410s would be nice, but Its no big problem to me. I see too many people being told you cant run a big cam in a DD, nore stock gears, I call B.S. on that. Mine is fine, just do it and let us know how you like it.

Isn't it true that higher gears weakens the stock 10bolt? That's my main concern about installing higher gears. I don't have 2k for a rearend, or will I ever anytime soon.....still a college student 
I am praying that my rearend holds. Not doing ANY hard launches ever.

I am praying that my rearend holds. Not doing ANY hard launches ever.If you move to a 4.10 thats where the actual teeth on the gear get pretty fragile in a 10 bolt. If you look at a stock 3.42 gear you will very thick teeth compared to a 4.10. Not much risk in going to a 3.73 gear though, just like you said it is quite dependent on your driving style, no hard launches etc. However keep in mind, with a 10 bolt and it being made of glass it could go at anytime, IE shifting on a bump on a road, you name it. I dont think you will mind the 3.42's, just keep em till you save up for a real rear.
