Default Tac lagg........

Hey guys, i was just wondering if your tacs lag also. I'll rev my car up and there is a good half second lag on the stock tac. is that a computer program thing??

The tach lags a hellva a lot in these cars. And with a cam, it will be even farther behind at the high end. I can floor the pedal in neutral, and the tach will read 2500 rpm when my shift light comes on at 6800 rpm. The dash has it's own computer, so you can't do anything about it with the pcm. Also, this dash computer is fed a digital serial data stream which slows things down as well.

The best thing you can do is get a good shift light and just ignore the tach.

I use an aftermarket tach and shiftlight. My stock tach just crapped out for no reason though. I wouldn't get an aftermarket tach if your stock one still works though. The shiftlight is best for knowing when to shift.

with an aftermarket tach you can really see the lag. Much more evident in 1st gear then the others after it catches up in the 1/4 mile.

Get yourself a shift light, there is a gp going on right now if you are in the market.
