Default low oil preasure why?

i am running a solid roller and just rebuilt it last year it droped all oil preasure so i tryed a new oil pump no go

i had the lifter bores sleeved and did new bearings rings and lifters got it all done droped it in and now the preasure is around 25 to 30 as soon as it starts and then drops right down to like 12 to 15 at idle
i am lost now what is going on does anyone have a clue ?

the solid roller cam is 708/680 lift
and i am running 30 weight oil in it for the ring break in
i do have a good automeater gage on it so i know exactly what the preasure is

just a thought

how about the rear plate seal ?
it has that seal around the rear oil gally before the oil goes into the block
maybe that has a cut or something in it ?

Oil pump o-ring? Something isn't allowing the pressure to stay in the galleys. It probably isn't external or you'd see oil everywhere. I'd suspect it's making it's way right back into the pan. If the lifter bores were the problem you would see higher pressure numbers than that.

Based on what I've heard, the clearance in the bearings have the most affect. I'm having an oil pressure problem too. Most think that I have too much clearance. On startup my oil pressure is fine but when it warms up it goes down to 18-20 at idle.

I'll be pulling my motor again, sucks.

might not be it...but i figured its worth commenting on.

what brand oil filter are you using? Ive had problems with fram in the past making oil pressure low....changed it and solved the problem. also had friends have the same problem. non of these where on ls1's, but figured its worth a shot.

good luck

ok corect me if i am wrong

but does that say that at 4000 RPM there should be 23.9 psi of oil presure and at 1000RPM there should be 5.something ?

does this sound way to low to anyone else but me ?

thanks for the input though this might be helpfull to get to the bottom of this

Those are minimum specs. Basically what the engine can survive on. They're not the nominal values for oil pressure.

things to check...

Rear block plug
cam retainer plate seal
Rear cover gasket
oil pan gasket alignment (specifically around the holes from the pan to block)
pump pickup o-ring

what are your main bearing clearances, what type of bearings, side clearances on the big end of the rods?

well its fixed now

i did alot of things at once just cause i was in there so i did it all
the cam retainer plate seal looked really flat so i put in a new one the oil pump pickup tube seal was fine but i put in a new one and i did a new pan gasket too

while i had the oil pump out i checket it out some and fount that K TECH never shimed the spring i have heard since that that do not do that to there ported pumps

so i shimed it .150 and put it all back together now i have about 20 at idle and it jumpes to 40 as soon as i hit the throtle
i will take that since the solid rollers seem to have low preasure anyways
i guess i have learned no more useing some of there reusable gaskets
