For your first time, start on it Friday night, and you should have it back together Sunday night and be driving it to work on Monday morning. This is assuming you have all the necesary items lined up ahead. I think a shop would charge you $500 plus parts to do it.

I was quoted $870, and I have everything that would be installed.

Around here cam only swaps cost $1200.00 spring changes are another $480.00 I believe. I almost **** my pants. Entertained the idea of a shop doing my install for about 32 seconds and the only reason it was considered....Winter,I didnt have a heated garage at the time and my electic had be cut due to construction. Needless to say I backed the car in the garage, worked on it only in daylight hours, ran an extension cord to my kitchen and froze my *** of but saved 1600 to 1700 bucks. Worth it hell yes! Listen to my sound clip, Not crazy but just right for me.

lol, that's awsome. I just did my cam/springs swap over christmas break. My garage was between 25* and 38* most of the time. It took me over a week but I was usually by myself, totally new to the swap, and only worked for a few hours most days because I didn't want to get sick from the cold.
My header swap took me 20 hours.
Once I got a GOOD spring compressor in the mail, after doing the first two major steps of the cam swap, it was put back together and ready to run the next day. You should be able to do your own swap. BUT DO YOUR RESEARCH. And make sure you have EVERYTHING on hand, it sucks to have to borrow a car and drive thirty minutes to buy some new retainers/locks after wasting 45 mins looking for the one that popped off while removing a spring.

Yeah, should mention I live 20 minutes from Summit racing and needed a spring tool so I went and bought the Crane cams one, what a life saver! Worked great!

I was a newbie a few months ago when I installed mine. I used LS1Howto.com's instruction manual which is a must, Advanced Auto spring compressor (I just cut off the handle) and Auto Zones crank puller. I did waste sometime running back and forth to the parts store to get the corrct parts. I ended up renting every pully puller they had after the first one was the wrong one. I didn't want to take the risk and you get your money back so why not? I started about 11:00am on a Wednesday stopped @ 1:00am on Thursday. After getting back to work on Thusday I had it running by noon.. Everything went super smooth after I had the right tools which wasted about 3 hours. If you have everything in order and you have the right parts, I think you could have it done in one very very long day. I f not 1 1/2 days. Good luck!!

LOL holy ****, that is horrible.

The local LS1 shop(Wiggins Performance in NC) that my club uses charges $200 for cam/pushrods and $300 for cam/pushrods/springs/timing chain. (plus parts, of course)

Only $300? That's pretty cheap for a shop if they are reputable.
