Default whats a good camshaft?

i have a 98 z28 and i want a louder sound to my flowmaster exhaust. i am planning on getting hooker long tube headers and an offroad Y-pipe, and i am wondering what is a good cam. there is the FMS Custom Grind Camshaft - 224"/224" .588"/.588" 114LSA - aggressive profile with a 1800-6600 RPM range, good idle and the FMS Custom Grind Camshaft - 224"/228" .588"/.576" 112LSA - aggressive profile with a 1800-6600 RPM range, fair idle. which one would be best for my car?

any futral cam is a good cam imo
but honestly the f11 and even f13 are really streetable at 228/230 or 230/232.. honestly i would do the f11.. it has a lil split which i think the ls1's like, will idle as well as that 224 adn drive just as good also, and its a good medium so i dont think u would wish you'd gone bigger like u might with the 224/224.. i started out looking at the same cam ur lookng at and wound up with a 232/234 .600/.600 f14 cam from futral.

if ur an auto do the f11or f13.. if ur a stick honestly id do the f13 or the f14..

Do you have a stall? If you get a bigger cam w/out getting a stall it will feel like a dog down low.

I agree with everyone else and would stay with 114 lsa since it is an auto, but you will need to buy a convertor. The 224 would be an excellent choice to go with since it is your first cam. There is alot of other stuff to do before you decide to go with a big camshaft.

Let me tell you this and hope that you learn this the easy, unexpensive way...You will NOT kick everyone's *** that you race. You can spend all the money in the world buying the fastest, best ****, and there will always be someone else that is faster. I promise. You have to remember that racing is for fun. You win some and you loose some, it wouldn't be fun if you won everytime you raced.

A stall is a torque converter. Basically it will get rid of weak spots your auto has during roll races. I'm not exactly sure how they work but with the cams you are looking at they are highly advised. Basically, your tranny will seem more agressive with a bigger stall....I can't explain it too well...gurus?

And you MUST get a new torquer converter before you get a cam.

i know but i just a couple months ago got my 98 z28 and the car i had before was a 94 v6 camaro, it was slow and sucked but still won some races. i have raced alot of good cars and recently beat a ws6, it was close but automatic start so much better than the manuals like he had lol.

go to the newb section and read all of JRP's stickies.

go to howstuffworks.com and find automatic transmissions, or torque converters.

the basics of a "stall" are this, a "stall" is a torque coverter, that needs to spin faster in order to transfer more energy. its called a "stall" because you can actually spin the motor up higher before it starts moving the car. its all achieved thru the movement of fluids on the inside and the momentum of spinning liquid.

i'd suggest you read these boards like they are going out of syle for about 3 months before you start making decisions. if you want "the meanest sound possible" get some headers, no cats, and true duals on your car (what i have). go to LS1sounds.com and check out all the tons and tons of sound clips. the clips never seem to do the true duals justice though, they are usually hands down the best sounding exhaust. go to TSP's website ~~~~> sponser texas speed and performance, and check out there "rumbler x duals" system, i have it on my car and it sounds great.

man you really needto do some research!

also - not sure if you know this or not, but flowmasters are referred to as "clogmasters" on this board due to their reputation for actually REDUCING power on ls1 cars. they sound very very nice, but dont perform as others do.
