What HP levels can the stock internals hold up to?

They can hold up to a lot....for awhile. There are people with heads/cam/nitrous running 10's (and even quicker) on the stock shortblock. I personally wouldn't want to do that. You want to keep the revs relatively low, esp on the older motors, or you risk having a rod bolt let go on you.

just about ever head/cam car I know of has not lasted past 50K miles...........now they will take a good bit of HP for a while but just don't be surprised WHEN something finally gives out......

it's the cast pistons and/or weak (pre-01) rod bolts......they just don't last......
