Question Best conventional oil for high mileage?

There are a few oil freaks on this site. What is the best conventional oil for high mileage cars? I have a 95 Bonneville with 116K that is starting to burn about a quart every 1,500 miles. I don't want to run expensive synthetic oil. The car has had nothing but Quaker State 10w30 sine it was new. What do you recommend?

Try Pennzoil 10w40 or Castrol GTX 10w40. They should reduce consumption a little bit.

3.8L? Patman's idea should work well but since your in OKC and it gets very hot there, why not go with a Gas/Diesel rated 15W-40. I guarantee it will cut down the consumption. My mother's 98 3.8L Monte Carlo started using around 1/2qt per 3K miles once it reached 100K. With the 15W-40 she was lucky to burn 1/2qt every 6K.
No noticeable loss of MPG was noted either and the motor actually seemed to run smoother with the heavier oil.

These can easily be found at Wallmart....... I prefer Chevron Delo400 15W-40 and Mobil Delvac 1300 15W-40. HTH

Thanks for the help. I will switch to a heavier weight oil. I was thinking about this. http://www.quakerstate.com/pages/pro...hermileage.asp

Valvoline Maxlife (IMHO) is one of the best oils out there for high mileage vehicles.

Ryan's idea is an excellent one, the 15w40 oils will work out very well in the hot weather. The high mileage oils are good too, but their problem is they cost a lot more than regular oils, and it sounds like he wants to do this a more cost effective way. He could find one of the common 15w40 fleet oils for a much better price than the high mileage stuff.
