Default Absolute Speed LS1 (5.7) Head Questions

Since Jay has pretty much disappeared I was hoping that someone that owns these heads could help me out here. I bought these heads (241 castings) from a forum member about a year ago. They were unused and have made good power. My question is are these heads milled (seller did not know)? I remember reading on Jay's site that these heads should have a CR of 10.8:1 but do not recall if they were milled. The reason I am asking is that I just purchased a F13 cam and am wondering if I am going to need to notch the pistons. The cam is on a 112 LSA, but with only +2 degrees of advance to try to get more piston to valve clearance. Thanks in advance for any help.

Jay was all about making power with his heads, and one clear way to make power is compression.
I would bet you have around a .030 mill job.
He milled the LS1 heads almost everytime he used them.

As far as PtoV goes?
I would defentially check it before you start the car.

Thanks for the reply. I am planning on checking clearances. I was just hoping that someone who has these heads or recalls how he set them up would reply so I could plan accordingly.

I had the 5.7 Heads from absolute and the biggest I could go without notching the pistons was a TR224 cam anything larger and I was having piston to valve clearance issues.

I have AS 5.3's they were set up for a TR 224 and I could'nt go anybigger bause Jay hung the intakes out on the edge of the valve seat. I just got done notching and my heads were not milled. There are twowayso check if you have milled head, first you ca measure the thickness of the head bolt boss by the exhaust port if unmilled the measurement will be 1.615". Secondly, measure from the head deck to top of the head where the valve cover gasket goes that measurement should be 4.750" unmilled.

The AS 241's milled .030 and the F13 will have clearance issues. I had the same setup and you could see where the pistons touched the valves.

Was your cam ground with +4 or +2 degrees of advance?

I had 224/224 cam with Absolute Speed 5.7 heads, and when we took the heads off, we found marks on the pistons from were the valves hit. But that probably happened from hitting the rev limiter. Happened a couple of times with the cars original trans.
