Default TR224 vs TR 230/236

Thinking about a cam swap at the same time I add some new heads. I love my tr224, the tabletop tq and great low and midrange power. But I"m thinking with better flowing heads I can go bigger and get the same tabletop curve or maybe not? Better to stay with the current cam or move up ? The heads have the appropriate springs and retainers. Please be specific to above cams and dont turn it into a fms spam-a-thon. I'm well aware of the fm13 and 14.
thank you.

I'd go with a TR 230, or their new cheater cam if you're wanting to move up. I'm not bias, there are several good cam designers among the community.

Would looking into a custom ground cam to the specifics of my intended setup be better? the 224 really does work well but I'm finding myself wanting more up top now.. the car isnt so much a daily driver anymore.. I'm lucky if I get to drive it once a week now.

A mind reader, I'm waiting to hearback from Brent. The PRC's are inexpensive as well and the numbers are very similar, rumor has it the prc's are about to go on special

I was in the same boat as you a month or so ago and I even went as far as to buy a big cam 238/244 586/612 but something in my gut told me to get the TEA heads and keep the tr224. So for a little more topend I added a 90mm intake and tb setup and if thats not enought either a bigger cam in the future or some nitrous

get the TEA's and dont look back, I am very happy with the quality and look of the TEA heads, plus brent is a great guy to deal with

p.s. your the guy that made me want these heads about two months ago, remember suggesting them to me? now look at me

Thanks, for what you're spending on the 5.3 heads you could get the GMPP LS6 heads for 1800.00 that flow 311 @ 600 lift and flow double what the 5.3's do below 400 lift, after 400 they're close in cfm. Also down the road you can have bigger valves and a competition hand finish done for 700.00 and the GMPP LS6 heads will flow 345 @ 600. You should do a little more research before making a decision, do it right the first time if you can help it.

Yep looked at those heads and they are not $1800 delivered nor do they come with springs rated to .660 or titanium retainers. Did you look at what they're delivery charge is I saw $380 at one place. Also those are the milled heads at that price and that can be a concern. I wanted un-milled. As well as all the gaskets and headbolts, might as well do the lifters with the motor at 75k. Add all that in there and your $1800 is impossible. I did the research and crunched numbers with a few vendors. I got stage 2.5 heads, gaskets, bolts, comp oem replacement lifters and a deal on pushrods if I need the 7.35's, all for less than your $1800. And they're not TEA.

Dude, the the shipping issue has already been addressed by Scroggin Dickey. Use the search button. You said heads not all the other **** to put in your engine that you won't get either from TEA, that you were interested in your above post. Also the GMPP heads come in two diffrent ways, stock chambers, or 60 cc.

Well when you buy heads what do you need to do the install? Plus that valvetrain isnt as good is it? 2k for the un-milled heads. Then add in all of the above and you cant touch the price I got. I'm not knocking your heads, you paid enough for them I hope you enjoy the hell out of them. I went a different route, saved some money and got comparable flow numbers with equal but more likely better quality.

You can buy them used if you like but I wont. Yep I saw all the used heads for sale. Not my cup of tea. Funny that you argue to buy them at $1800 and then say you bought them for $750. I smell Argue with yourself if you like, I'm done with your banter.

Since you smell bullshit here's the link, http://www.gearchatter.com/viewtopic11072.php, to when I bought the heads, I paid less than what was asked. After selling my stock heads and the LS6 valvesprings I have 750.00 tied up in my heads. See I prove my point, dude I have proof to back up the things I tell you, I could bet whatever brand X heads you bought would not make the power my heads do on my car if we swapped them for yours. Heads & cam is where your power is if you have the supporting boltons. I am not some dumbass to performance, or mechanic work as you think. Do a search on my car to see where it came from to it's present state. I gave you advice as you asked for then you tried to treat me as a dumbass. My situation was unique as for what I paid for my heads, and David Farmer was a standup honest guy about the heads that he sold me. My point is you generally get what you pay for. I would have bought my heads for the 1899.00 they list if this deal would not have come available because of the potential these heads have for my future 408. I'm done with giving friendly advice.
