Default Opinions on this cam, HP & tuners results.

Looking for an opinion on a dyno tune.

I DID tell the tuner that I don’t bracket race.
I DID tell him that I liked to drive fast for extended periods.
I DID tell him that I liked to WOT runs occasionally.
I DIDN’T tell him that I was going to be driving the Silver State Classic or other road race.

Regardless, he said after he tuned the car that he was conservative on the A/F ratio & timing at high rpm to bring down CHT for extended runs to provide a safety margin for the heads, but that I lost a minor amount of horsepower.

On the dyno, the run yielded:
Max horsepower 371 @ ~5500 - 6000rpm, MAX torque 342

Q I think that he was too conservative. What do you think?

Also the idle seems a bit high @ 900 rpm, and also rougher than I expected.
As rough as the Hot Cam guys describe their cars with their 112° lobe separation.
With my 144° LS & Comp Cams grind, I expected a more stealthy idle.

Q Could the tuner have misprogrammed the idle?

Info on the car:

2002 LS2 manual transmission.
Ported Throttle Body, smooth bellows, SLP Underdrive Pulley 180° thermostat
Dynatech SuperMAXX Header System {High-Flow Catalytic Converters & all oxygen sensors present.}

Comp Cams shaft installed:
GRIND #: LS1 3767R /3753R HR114.0
GROSS VALVE LIFT .532 .535
DURATION @ .050 220.00 224.00
LOBE SEPARATION 114.0
ROCKER ARM RATIO 1.70

Coolant fan temperatures: Primary ON @ 200° OFF @ 190°
Secondary ON @ 210° OFF @ 200°

PCM Rev Limit set to 6600rpm, Shift @ 5800rpm

Premium Fuel Only, prefer Mobil 93 octane.

A/F ratio 13.1 to 5000rpm, 12.8 above 5000rpm.
Timing: 22° Total Timing

Curb Idle @ 900 rpm

I'd say there's a good chance that it could gain a lot with more aggressive spark. Optimum spark varies on each car but on average most ls1's like 26-29 degrees.

1) Dyno runs can vary +/- 10 hp on any given day
2) 22* total timing does seem a bit conservative
3) I felt the same way about my "rough" idle for about a week (after the install). The more I drove the stealthier it became. It's been about a year now, and about 30 seconds after startup it runs like stock (a little sewing machine sound).

The cam listed in your sig, that is a FM-F4-114 cam or the FM-F4-112? And where is your curb idle?
Did you do anything to the TB to help your idle?

Thanks!

FM4 - 114

Curb idle is 750

No.

I agree with DD966. Your timing is too conservative. I would 1st install a 160*
t-stat to get h20 temps down. Then bump up timing. I'd also recommend SVO
30#. Doing alot of hi-speed running going to tax your injectors. I have these
mods on my 2002SS & woke up my car. 93 Octane is good insurance, tho I
can,t get it in my area. Also if legal a good h20/injection setup would help with CHTemps and aggressive timing. I have one on my car and gained about
30hp/tq.

I imagine the 22* timing is the cause of low torque and hp#'s still good.
