Default Question from one of the truck guys

My friend has an 00 Camaro with the 3800 or 3.8 in it. The motor is dead and he wants to do a engine swap to an (I'm guess) LS1 (he just said v8). I have never worked with a Camaro or T/A so I wouldnt know. But I have heard that you have to pull motor and tranny both. Aslo heard that it all had to come out of the bottom. Is any of this true? How hard is this swap? Thanx guys.

it's gonna be a lot of work. i had a similar sutiation. I had a V6 98 camaro i don't remember all the parts you need but he's gonna have to invest about 7k to 10k to do it right. parts you'll need:

tranny will be cheaper to go with automatic but.. i would go for the T56 tranny
rear axle
ecm n' wiring
V8 engine cradle
you may be able to keep your gas tank but you need to work on the lines too.
and a lot more parts....

It may be cheaper to buy a complete engine pull out with tranny, pcm, engine cradle, etc, for about 5k from fparts at ebay or find a donor car. it was a lot of work n ended up tradeing it in for a V8 silverado.

He is puttin in a 3800 again now. Thinking we will build a motor to go in it little by little. Money is kinda tight right now so we dont really have alot of options. Thanx for the advice though. When we start to build I will let ya know. Might be a pretty good while though.
