Default Ticking sound.. :( Help!

Ok so i just got new cam and stall installed F14 and 3600, and im driving it home after we re-tuned it. Its driving fine and all the sudden i hear this Ticking sound and it continues all the way home, its coming from the engine. It sounds like the sound a rollercoster makes when going up to the top of the big drop. It also sounds like a little squeel sound when going from a stop in low rpms.

The PRC Dual Kit was installed with these as well.

I hope to God that the pistons arent slapping together, or that i didnt bend or break a rod or something, jesus.

youd know if it was PTV contact.stock LS1 are known to sound a tad like a sowing machine, lol.start by pulling the valve covers and check for your pushrods, and call the company who did the install and ask their advice, they may ask you to bring in the car again.start with that

im under the impression that it most likely is either a rocker arm loose, or maybe a spring was inadvertintly installed wrong? does that sound about right? This is what Cyphur said and he knows his ****.

like i said FIRST call the company cause if you pull the covers they may void any warranty, ask them and maybe theyll bring it back in and check.if not pull the covers and pull the rockers and inspect them and the pushrods.

lol.....love how my name comes into it

i know a little bit about these motors, but nothing like some of the pro's in here. i'm still learnin.

Branden, if RPM can't crack into your motor by friday, let me know. I'll swing by with some tools and look into it. If you really need to tomorrow, I might be able to....I'll just be with my girls.

if they didn't tighten the rocker arm bolts enough, or if a spring was installed incorrectly, or if it was installed a tooth or two off, that could all cause issues. keep us posted!

How's your oil pressure?? If your oil pressure dropped you could have spun a rod bearing and that would cause a popcorn/ticking sound from the motor? I had a oil pump o-ring fail and the pressure dropped and made the motor tick bad, got a new pump in there and all is well. Double check that as well, if they installed the cam, and took the pump off for any reason to install a new timing chain, or new pump, that could be a problem right there.

Other than that, a rocker, spring, piston slapping, etc, it's a load of possibilities. Sorry to hear about this, I know how it feels to get a new mod and something go wrong.

Keep us up to date.

I have the same exact thing. I had a slight ticking when I just had my bolt ons, but it became REALLY loud and noticable after I installed the FM14. From what I have read and researched, it's normal and fine. LS1's are loud engines and they tend to sound like a sewing machine with major work.

LOL, make sure your spark plugs are all tight. My motor started ticking one day and I figured it was valvetrain or an exhaust leak but the #2 plug had worked its way loose and was vibrating.

They had a problem with there trailer but they came and picked it up today, so i should know hear in about an hour. I also had a question what is an acceptable oil pressure? should i be worried if i start the car at about 50psi once its warm its anywhere between 20-40 depending if im on the gas or not. And some times when im at a light it will dip down a little below 20, but i always have pressure. This has been like this for about a year with my other cam as well as the new one.. anything i should worry about?

Ill have updates on the condition of the noise and what it is, in a little while.

I think that's unacceptable for a stock motor, with my stock pump and 94k miles I would NEVER see below 40psi at idle, after fully warmed up and 112degrees outside. I got my new LS6 ported pump and see 40-50 at idle and 70+ at WOT.

I would bet that low oil pressure isn't helping matters with the ticking. What did the shop do exactly to the car???

F14 cam, PRC Dual Kit, 3600 Stall.

Basicly upgraded my Cam/springs/stall. i was running a smaller comp cam with 918s and 2800 stall.

Well I think that pump might have an issue, or the o-ring is f'd up. Low oil pressure will make the engine tick more and can ultimately spin a bearing, so, it's up to you now if you want them to look into the pump/o-ring, it can only eliminate that possibility.

I'm no A4 expert, but I don't know how a bigger stall would effet oil pressure either.

Getting dual springs will make more noise, but not that much more, I went from the 918's to 921's and didn't notice that much of a difference. I have had 3 cams in the car, the stock one, a 224/228, the G5X3, and now the G5X4 and my oil pressure NEVER changed. Now with the new pump it only got better, and we have the same heat issues you Texans have

Look there my friend!!
