Default biggest cam to fit on TEA 1.5's milled .015?

guys, any idea whats the biggest cam you could fit on these heads without flycutting the pistons or any other issues?

would anything over 240/240 .56x 110 be safe for example? If so then how much bigger could you go on those 1.5 heads milled .015?

just doing research

Lobe speed, advance, LSA, and duration all play a key role in P/V clearence. This makes it hard to say unless you know exactlly what brand cam and have all the specs on it.

HD – We have the same heads and TEA told me that unless I was going to measure the P-V clearance they would not recommend going with any cam that had more than 228 degrees duration with an ICL of 108 and a LSA of 112 on the intake and 234 degrees duration on the exhaust. As an example 228/232 .588/.588 ICL-108 LSA-112. I am sure that a larger cam such as a 230/232 .590/.590 ICL-110 LSA-112 will fit without cutting the pistons but you really need to measure the P-V to be sure.

so really anything over 230/232 110 would be very close and iffy without checking the clearance

I take something along the lines of a Trex wouldnt work with these heads at all then correct?

im just asking for a friend so... i just put the F11 in mine and im more than happy, but someone wanted to have an idea the max cam that would clear.. note, i said an rough idea of the biggest he could go

It is all relative to what modders think "acceptable " clearances are, and if it is a track only setup or street/strip.

Anything with street in it should sensibly be treated as so.

I agree with predator. FWIW, I will be installing TEA 5.3L stage 1.5 heads, F13 cam on normal grind (112 LSA, +4 advance). My heads were milled 0.006", and I am using cometic 0.045" gaskets. After much research and calling, this is what I felt comfortable with. I probably could have milled more, but I have a 99% street car, and I wanted a litte extra cushion. I will be checking P/V clearances as well.

So would the FM14 be too large to use with the 5.3 heads? Guys saying the FM13 is the largest theyd recommend before flycutting?

then easyiest way to do this is to get pushrods that are what ever you wmlled the heads shoter. so if you milled the heads .015 get a push ros that is .015 shorter than stock. this is the best way to be safe with out messureing but will cost you some lift.

Our newer 1.5's have slightly more PtoV than our old sets. But I have checked PtoV in every car I have done a cam swap on. I think it just makes sense to check it since it does not take very much time.

I went with Brent's suggestion of cam and went with a 228/230 on a 112 +2. Mine are milled 0.010 and I am running MLS 0.045 gaskets.

i dont think this will help since my heads arent milled, but i run a F14 on a 112+2 with TEA 1.5's, but then again mine arent milled at all...i dont have any problems..

Jon

*note* i use the MLS gaskets from GM
