my friend did the same exact thing. He blew his motor a day later trying to drive it. He never really got an answer on it, but the motor had about 60k and just a H/C swap.

very possibly spun a cam bearing, ut usually this wont cause a total loss in oil pressure
sounds like a rod or main bearing to me, sorry to hear that

I had the same thing happen after a 100 miles or so. The oil pump was clogged. Cleaned it out and it happened again. Finally wised up and replaced it, which I should have done with the cam swap. No problems with new pump, its been 2 years.

You probably didnt get the o-ring in well enough and it popped out. That SOB is hard to get in. Mine took about two hours to get it right.

It could be the O ring or your pump failed. Did you chang it out for a ported LS6 pump or is it stock.

My guess is also the "O" ring. No self respecting LS1 owner ever lets enough trash build up in their engine for their oil pump to become clogged much less rats themselves out on LS1Tech that they had done such a God awful thing. Shame I say. Such an individual should be ordered to spend eternity in Mustang Hades.

Everyone is saying pick up tube o-ring, but did you even take the pump off (to swap timing chain)? I'd say a spun bearing if you didn't take the pump off.

That O-ring is damn hard to get in right, unless you take the oil pan off. I thought I had mine in right, but on the next motor tear down I saw that it was getting pinched big time and just barely sealing.

What is the correct way to do the O ring? I just did a pump tonite. All I did was put the O ring on the pickup tube and bolt it in the pump. Didn't seem to hard to me but that could be the problem.

The pump could have just given out, that is why people with 98-00 models often replace them. I doubt that's what it was, it would be quite a coincidence coming 50 miles after the swap. Did you take the pump out to do a chain? When the pressure went to zero did you shut the car off and get it towed home?

The correct way is to seat the o-ring on the pickup, push the pickup tube into the oil pump, then install and tighten the bolt. It is absolutely critical you do not tighten the bolt to seat the o-ring; it must must be seated properly before tightening the bolt. I'm positive this is where most of the "low oil pressure after cam install" problems arise from.

A&MWS6 - Did you install a new oil pump and o-ring? If not your oil pump went our or more than likely you spun a bearing. I would check it with a mechanical oil pressure gauge for accuracy.

thats the think i never even touched the oil pump, so i'm 100% positive it's not the o-ring and if i did spin a rod what would have caused this? and yes i turned the car off after i noticed there was no oil pressure, it was idling at my friends house when it happened.

Did you check the torque spec on the cam gear? If you tightened to much you busted the cam plate and clogged the oil vein up on the back of the cam plate. I done it my first cam swap and learned from then on to double check the clearance and torque.

What happened is the cam gear dug into the cam plate and spider web the plate, which stoped the oil flow from the top of the block to the bottom causing me to lose all oil pressure after 10 minutes of idleing. Check it out because either way you will have to check that and the oil pump.

Good luck
