Roll the pushrods on something flat, like a piece of glass. If they wobble when you roll them they are bad. You need to get hardened pushrods anyways if you are doing a cam install. Or should I say you "should" get them.

whoa...I don't need to get yelled at because I tried helping you. I don't know about the lifters, I would like to know as well.

Even if the pushrods are hardened, you could still have a bent one. Roll them on glass like 777 said. I've never heard of a way to test lifters out of the car. You can inspect the wheels for flat spots and smoothness, and roll them with your fingers to see if any of the bearings feel rough. The stock roller lifters are pretty good in these cars, but watch out for the plastic lifter guides. Give those a good inspection while you have them out. They can allow a lifter to turn.

I heard somewhere that there were some metal lifter guides available, but I never heard about it again. I think you need special lifters to work with them, and it seems like they were not stock length. Crane maybe?

I modified my stock ones with some steel stiffeners after I had a lifter turn. I also drilled and tapped the block for bigger bolts to support them better.

The only way I know to check a lifter to see if it is bad is run it in a motor . That is hard to do with LS1s because of having to take the heads off to get to them . Works like a champ tho . You could try them in an older roller SBC if you know a shop that would test them for you . They are the same lifters as an LS1 and LT1 . Heck if you got it torn down that far you might as well replace them anyways .

The Comp OE replacement lifters are a good choice. They look stronger than stock, and they're just as easy to set up and keep quiet. I've been reving the snot out of a set of them for a while on a steep ramp cam with .600 lift. On the last engine tear-down the rollers still looked smooth and shinny.
