I agree, with all of the good dual spring kits available it would be foolish to use a single spring on such a big aggressive cam.

It would not be foolish as 918's can handle .625 easy on XE-R lobes. It is up to you.
Cheaper and good ones would be PRC kit (duals)

I had planned on running my 918s with my Magic Stick. But in the end I went with the PRCs for the peice of mind. I would say if you can afford the PRCs, get them.

I would certainly recommend using the PRC dual valve spring kit with our MS3. The 918's are only rated to .600" from Comp. They would work for a little while, but I would not recommend taking the risk for the long-term. You're definitely safest with the PRC spring kit, and it's not even $100 more than the 918's at $259.99 with the springs, titanium retainers, hardened spring seats, and new seals. We have both springs in stock for whichever route you decide to take.

Let me know if you have any other questions or concerns.

They 918's are only rated to .600" from Comp
Now, that is, and that only happened after the 921's (duals) came out.

HMMMMM I wonder why that is

If I had known then what I know now, I would have gotten the MS3 and used it with Comp 918's. I mainly got the 235/240 TSP cam because it was close to .600 lift for the 918's. As Pedator is saying, Comp used to rate the 918's for much more, I think .625, before the 921 duals came out. The duals wheren't rated for that much more than 918's, so it appears that they reduced the rating on 918's so they could sell the much more expensive duals.

You would be fine with 918's. The PRC duals would be good for piece of mind in that the inner spring should catch the valve if you happen to break one.

The 918s are lighter and thus better performing. I would buy the PRC kit since it's inexpensive and you can install it and forget about it.

If you were going to drag race a lot where valvetrain weight mattered and the springs were going to get changed/checked religiously, then the 918s make sense. I'd choose the dual springs for road racing where the engine would see sustained high rpms.

Is 221/224 0.558/0.581 112+2 cutting it to close for 918's?

Not even CLOSE. They are underated at .600 lift. 918's would be perfect for that cam.

Well, lots of debate about the 918 springs as far as how much lift they can really handle not to mention lots of broke valve spring stories, changing out every 15K-20K, etc. and 0.581 is getting close.
Thanks

on power tour, comp was advertising the 918's at .625 lift. so it will handle it. i am going the same route...magic stick with 918's for drag racing.

The drag racing point is valid, I run my XE-R .581 for over 1 year and many N2O passes with no issues at all. 918 are it for effective moving valvetrain lightness.
