Question Why don't my perimeter-bolt heads have notches?

Got some Patriot stg. 2 heads, the perimeter-bolt style, since I have a '98 LS1.
Just curious, why don't they have the notches in the deck, like my stock heads did? Does Patriot use different castings, or mill the heads to where the notches are gone, or what? Anybody know?
I guess since they don't have the notches I can use the MLS Gaskets instead of the old '98 style graphite gaskets. But the MLS are thicker, and will reduce my quench and therfore CR, right?
Maybe Gunnar could chime in here and shed some light on this?

I believe that they are milled and therefore have lost the notch. Just measure deck thickness and substract that from you stock ones. That should tell you how much mill.

Actually we weld the notch so that any type of gasket may be used. We had several requests for this to be done, so we made it a standard practice on all perimeter bolt heads.

The MLS gaskets are .055" compressed which is thicker than the graphite.

Yeap that makes sense too. Didn't really think of that.

Didn't someone have problems blowing gaskets exactly where that notch had been welded?

I don't know who originally did that head, but I do remember the guy posting pictures wondering what was going on.

My heads aren't Patriot, but I had the notches welded up... No problems here in a few years now FWIW...
