While there are very many engine builders out there, there are a select few head porters that I would trust to do the job to fit the cubes.

You can do a 402 aluminum LS2 block that weighs less than the 408 iron block. Aluminum is lighter, but weaker. Iron is heavier, but stronger. If you plan on spraying a nice shot, go this route without question. I believe there is a 120lb weight difference between the 2. Scoggin Dickey builds an really affordable shortblock built with high dollar parts, and you'll be hard pressed to find a much better deal than what they offer. As far as heads go, I have been told that MTI overstates the performance of their heads by another reputable head porter. Go with TEA or Futral (done by Meaux Racing) for your heads. You get what you pay for. They have the highest flowing heads - period.

Avoid the longblock if you can - unless you get an unbelievable deal on a complete setup. Build it with the best parts from the best companies. You'll thank yourself later.

I think he's totally right. For the $$$ you can't beat the SD LS2 402. If I blew my motor I would buy that or a real good iron 408 tomarrow!

I would spray 150 wet shot at the track and I am going with forge internal's. So the LS2 402 block would handle this with no problem.

Actually a longblock is the best way to go. It is all assembled, specked, blueprinted etc....
With that ask for a cover package and all you have to do is bolt on the peripherals.
