Default Advise please Purchasing some heads for my 02 Z-28 and have a very important question

Hey all:

First I am in California so I have to stay within the smog laws. I am not worried about visual just passing the sniffer. With all my mods and a great tune by Jeff Creech I passed with no problem with all my mods in my sig.

I always run the best gas I can which is Chevron 91 which is the best we have out here.

I am buying some heads but one problem. They have been milled to 57cc which will put me around 10.7:1 compression. Is that going to be a major problem. Can I purchase thicker haed gaskets to help lower the compression?

I really need some advise people so PLEASE chime in and give me your input.

Thanks

CR sounds about right to me too

what size cam do you have? there may very well be P to V issues with heads that are milled down to 57cc

I have the 224/224 cam with 580 lift at 114 lsa.

If the compression is correct at 11.5:1 that is way to high for me since I live in Calif and our best gas is only 91 oct.

62/63 cc is what you are looking for.

You can get thicker Cometic gaskets to raise the compression back.

A thicker gasket could end up causing more detonation if you ruin the quench area.

On a stock motor with a piston .007 out of the hole, and a .053 Cometic gasket a 57 CC head is 11.3:1

http://www.c5frc.com/calculators/Com...Calculator.htm

You really don't want more than about a .035 to .045 quench.

So, your choices are to find other heads, or run 11.3 with 91 Octane...

I noticed this yesterday in the forsale section.
I have goten in trouble pointing out things in the past by mods in the forsale section and therefore kept my mouth closed.
Those TEA heads are milled a lot.
You will have too much compression for California, and the flow numbers suffer due to the amount milled.
I would call TEA and have them do a nice set for you.
Unmilled will get you to your goal if you using a 5.3 head.
Flow numbers will be higher as well.
Good luck.

Yea I backed out of the heads. They where just to much compression.

I am looking into getting some Precision Porting heads from Bob. He has great review's on the GTO and Corvette forums.

Question I do have is what would you guys advise would be a safe compression I could run and be safe but pick up a litlle more power?

Also my tuner is Jeff Creech.

Thanks again Ken

Many of us run 11.5+ Compression in FAL heat with 93 octane and a damn good tune.
I would go between 10.5-11.0 somewhere.
Probally right in the 10.7 range like you were looking for.

With 91 octane you could go up to 11.0:1 SCR but more important is your DCR.
