Default 400 hp

I have a basically stock rebuilt LS1. I want to stay NA and still have the car very very drivable with as much torque as possible below 4500 rpm.
If I modify my stock heads by putting in bigger valves and some light porting together with a mild cam can I get there?
What specific cam recommendations do you have.
Thanks

You can do 400hp with full bolt-ons, LS6 intake, etc.
No need to dig into the engine.

400 RWHP? That's a different story. Decent cam like the F-13 will get you there.

The Comp 216/220 grind is as small as you should go with some ported heads to make 400rwhp.

I think there was a guy that had the 216/220 and some TEA 1.5's that did 401 rwhp. I think he even had Mac mid-tubes and mac cats.

A pretty reliable set up would be any of the mid range 224-228 cams from Thunder, Futral or TSP and some mildy ported heads (as you suggested doing). Those two things should make an easy 400 rwhp and have a pretty easy driving engine with very good torque.

It depends on if you are looking for rear wheel horse power or fly wheel horse power. It also depends on if you are measuring your rear wheel horse poer on a dynojet or a mustang dyno. The mustang reads much lower than a dynojet.

To get 400 RW HP you either need LT Headers, a big cam with no head work or LT Headers, a mediam sized cam with head work.

Good luck,

Al

I've got an 02 WS6(which has the LS6 Intake). Mods are Hooker LT's, True Duals, underdrive pulley, 160stat, 80mm MAF, and the CompCam 224/224 .581/.581 114LSA, and I made 403rwhp and 380rwtq with the dyno-tune from Speed Inc. Other than the cam, springs and pushrods, all internals are stock. Just research all the various mods, and come up with a good combination, including a great tune, and you can get there.

Cam only, look at something in the 230/230 plus range with the basic bolt ons will get you 400hp at the wheels.
