Default Cam suggestions for a 408 W/ AFR225

I am having LME build me a 408 here is my list but i'm not sure on my cam choice yet. Eagle crank,Callies rods, Custom Wiseco pistons W/2cc valve reliefs and lateral gas ports,LSX,Kooks 1 3/4 to 1 7/8 stepped headers,TSP X-pipe,AFR 225's, 11.25 CR. Car is a M-6. Would like a good size cam, car is not a daily driver. Right now i have a TSP231/237 cam {346} so i would like the equel to that or larger for the 408. Also i will be using Manley dual nextek srings so i would like to keep the lift in the .630's also harland sharps 1.7 RR, Thanks Shawn

What does LME recommend? Are you working with any other shop? If so, what do they recommend. Since you have valve reliefs and this isn't a DD, you should err on the BIG side.

254++ on the duration. How much depends on a combination of the specifics of the cam in question and just how big you want to go. I'd be in the high 240's to low 250's as a daily driver, so you should probably start in the 260's.

LME said i could go to a 257/262 but i,m not sure just how wild that cam would be. That is on a 112LSA. i was thinking this might be better an a 114lsa but i'm not sure. I would like to have some drivability.

Futral makes 560 RWHP with cams around 242/250
A friend went bigger and made less power
call Futral and see what he has
Allan is the cam man

This is one of those questions that there are several answers to and it boils down to what power you are looking to make, what the total application and package is and what driveability you are willing to give up. When we build 383 and 408 cars here we use cams similar to the 231/237 you mentioned up to a 240/248. I have yet to personally see a reason for a cam in the 250 range duration wise for a street car, but there are several out there.

We just did a 408 with a 238/244 and through a Powerglide, 4400 race converter, Ford 9" and slicks made 445RWHP. Off the wall guess in an standard M6 car with 3.42's it may make 520ish RWHP. This setup also used a stock LS6 intake, stock TB and a small MAF sensor. Wit a direct port 300HP shot she put down 675RWHP and pretty fat and 8* timing pulled out.

As some mentioned here, talk to the engine builder or whoever is helping with the build and/or tune and make a complete package. Hope this helps.

I would call Mike at Rapid Motorsports. He spec'd the cam for my 402; it's 244/250 for an A4. He has done a good amount of 402's and 408's so he has some good insight. I called other Vendors who tried to spec 250ish and bigger cams for my application which I felt were way too big for street use.

I'm swapping my 240/244 with a 246/257. I'm not too sure how well you'll do going much bigger than that without converting to a solid roller setup.

Mine is a 248/254 615/613 113LSA. Once you get near the .630 lift, you are begging to lose some needle bearings from your stock rockers. If going above a .620 lift, then play it safe and get some rockers that can take the punishment.
