Default Oil pressure after rebuild...

Okay, just got my rebuild fired up, and minus a slight oil leak (I need a new rear oil pan bolt, I ran mine over with a hoist, so I'm short one) everything seems great. I filled the cooling system (which seemed to go very well) and it sits right at 190* after warming up. I don't have a radiator fan on it, so I didn't run it very long, about 5-6 minutes, a couple of 1/2 throttle runs.

My oil pressure at idle after warm up is about 42-43 psi, and it went up to 65 psi at 1/2 throttle. This seems pretty good to me, but this is my first LS1, and first complete rebuild, so I'm perpetually parnoid.

Also, any bad sounds I should be listening for? I hear no ticking or knocking, but, I'm still new at this rebuild stuff.

Thanks guys!

-Blake

edit: Oh, I did run it at idle, with a few blips now and then for about 20 minutes on the very first start.

If hot idle is 40+ and 2500 rpm + is 60 psi of better you are good to go.

Good stuff. Now I just need to get some exhaust on it, and fix that oil leak, and then I can get some real street testing done.

Well, just as an update, after a little more break-in, I seem to sit at about 33 PSI or so on a hot idle (780 RPM, give or take) and it still runs up to about 65-70 as I get over 4500 RPM, so I think I'm good as far as that goes. My oil pan (or my re-reinstalled rear main) is still leaking like a damn sieve though , so I'm pulling it out AGAIN tonight to recheck everything. I think it must be my oilpan-rear cover point, as I KNOW I put the rear main in dead-nuts on. We'll see tonight.

Someone asked me about this today, so I figured I'd post up what the problem was.

Warped oil pan. WTF is up with that?

My oil pressure was fine, bad gauge was giving me inconsistent readings.

the minimum oil psi needed in an ls1 is 6 psi per 1000 rpm. it seems like your pressure is fine. good luck

Heh, just FYI. I was just updating this thread for informational purposes. (If you notice, it was 2 years old...)

I don't even have this engine anymore. I've had another 5.7L, a 6.0L and a 5.3L in it since then. I'm currently putting together a forged 370" motor with an L92 top end for big spray.

I am building another RX7 with the engine from this thread (new oil pan) and a T56 in it this spring. Won't be the "fast" car though.

Another random bit. After my old (ebay purchased) gauge died, I bought a shiny new one from JPH here, and it works like a charm.
