Default Question about cam install...

ok i got all the parts and tools i need for my cam install except for one..i ordered the jrp lifter tool so it would hold the lifters up..i ordered it from thunder racing 2.5 weeks ago and i still dont have it..what else can i use to hold the lifters up while i take the cam out? thanks!

I use the russian roulette method!

you can get pen magnets if you need. Put them were the pushrods normally go. Then return the magnets to the parts store when finished

Turn the cam over a few times with no pushrods and the lifters should stay in the trays...

get some 1/4 aluminum rods from home depot, grind points into the ends. Works GREAT!! the alum is flexable.

last cam swap i did for a friend i used 5/16th rods and worked great

All you have to do is pick up a couple 5/16" wooden dowels or metal rods. Do some searches, and of course read the www.ls1howto.com cam/spring swap guide. You slide them into the guideway things and they hold the lifters up. Basically a cheap, effective and easy to find JPR tool that mght need ground down a little to fit. (mine didn't)
