Default HELP!!!Double Roller Clearance Issues!!!

I am at the moment installing my Rollmaster Double roller (10:00 Wed night). I have the shims in place for the oil pump and it clears the chain fine. I went to put on the cover and the oil pump hits inside of the front cover! Anyone else with this problem? How did you go about fixing it?

what kind of pulley are you using? the old ASP pullies had this issue and needed to be machined to fit.

you have to machine your front cover for the pump because of the shims. It is a must for a double roller timing chain

Did you have the timing cover gasket in place?

No problems when I installed mine. I don't think you should have to machine it.

You do NOT have to machine the inside of the front cover. The cover is paper thin and couldn't handle being machined anyway. You need to check your work. Of course you didn't leave the cover gasket off because you bought a new one when you got your cam and installed the new gasket along with a new " O " ring, right? Did you install the shims properly? The one that goes on the output side of the pump MUST be oriented correctly. What about the pickup tube going into the pump with its' "O" ring. Did you get that one properly? Did you torque all the bolts down evenly? Did you check that the pump is square and flush against the block. Last but not least are you SURE the cam chain/ Oil pump drive sprocket is FLUSH against the BOSS on the crankshaft?

I have pulled the cover three times and never used a new gasket. The gasket looks perfectly fine and I have NO leaking. My only suggestion is to make SURE the cam chain and sprocket are flush against the boss on the crankshaft.

I second that, make sure it's flush, should fit just fine if you bought the right one.

Everything is in I believe correct. I transfered everything from my motor to the new one and have everything torqued to specs in the Christopher Endres Book. I have a new front main seal, that was NOT in place. We were test fitting the double roller. This is a new oil pump also. The shims are in the correct place, and we used sealant on the one shim where oil passes through which was stated in one of my directions. Just one spot of the driver side and the oil pickup flange are the only things touching. The oil pickup is not a probelm, that can be ground down becaues that side isnt even used for the pickup(the pickup only has one bolt). My dad and I have double and triple checked everything. This is by far NOT the first motor we have put togehter, just the first LS1.

I didnt get a new cover gasket, Speed Inc said since they were o-ring type, it wasnt needed to be changed, plus, a new one was installed 10000 miles ago.

I have a feeling others have had this problem but never noticed it. It is hardly noticeable, but I wanna get it right. I have a feeling that many people when installing inside their engine bay did not recongize the problem and torqued it down. One thing I find interesting is the depth of the threads to the bolts, seems like the bolts bottem out really early when nothing is under it, just a interesting note.
