Flycutting pistons... how much is safe?
It has been suggested to go .080 on intake and exhuast to be safe with a big stick and milled heads/.040 cometics. How much is veiwed as safe amounts of cutting? How thick is the surface on the stock piston. If .080 is removed, how much is left? Thanks.

The piston crowns are 4.5mm thick which works out to 180 thou. So if you cut an 80 thou relief you will have a remaining crown thickness of 100 thou or 2.5mm. Personally I wouldn't cut this much out as it must surely weaken the factory casting.....

Many guys have made the comment that .080 is common, many have gone .090. Obviously if you spray you have to have some metal up there to work with. Search, but .060-.080 is generally acceptable.
