Default Stock block...resleeve, bore, or go to dart?

I cracked 2 pistons, 7 and 8, while spraying the stock motor. Scared the walls about .027" and I have since bought the 408. I have some extra AFR 225's, may be looking to go with a TT or SC FI set-up so I'll need to stay at a lower compression. Then the 408 would probably make a good swap into an S-10 or something with the NX 300 DP going in. Just a thought but I am looking into the following options and some may or may not even be achievable.

Resleeving the block and going with a 383 or 370 is the first thing that crossed my mind. It's a good set-up from what I hear and read and proven itself.

Boring the block. I am not sure that this can be done on the ls1, but has anyone tried it? I've heard and read .015" is the limit but why???

Third, my machinist says he heard of the Dart sleeves making it into a 427. I haven't heard of anyone using this set-up, why? Not that popular, not strong, too expensive what is the deal with this set-up or is it for ls6 blocks only? I didn't think that there was a difference but I'm sure someone on here knows.

Oh yea, the last would be resleeving to stock and keeping the 408 in. This way I have the factory motor for use at a later date. I'm not too fond of this one but hey, it is an option.

Which would you guys recommend? Would love more info on the 427...doing a search revealed nothing for an LS1, just SBC...thanks.

here and there

if you decide on the darton block i would only have it done by Steve Demirjian or Howard Wolf.

Where are they at? Your FAQ may say but I haven't read it all yet.

How would this work out as far as finding pistons? I haven't checked yet (still reading) but can/could you get pistons for use with a P/A i.e. TT or N2O? Assuming just any 4.125 piston would work.

Also, SpeedInc has the blocks for $2400 would you say that is a fair price or would having it done be cheaper and more reliable? I am just wondering about the cost. Would $4500 be a safe figure on a shortblock?

You cannot bore an ls1 due to the thin walls.

You can lightly hone it (say for a 383 rotating assembly), but anything further requires resleeve.

The highest you can go on the newer LS1's is .020". The earlier blocks can't go past .005". The only small block that could probably tolerate .10" is a high nickel 327 block of the 60's and early 350's.

it can be done, just the sleeve integrity is compromised IMO to not even be worth building upon. the stock iron liners are ~.060 thick.
