Default Best bore & stroke under 400inch?

Im kicking around the idea of running a program class.Rules are you have to be 400inch or less and you can run a dp nitrous setup with a pill size no bigger than a 36.My question is what bore and stroke combo would be best on the bottle?Big bore short stroke or small bore a throw some stroke at it.I would just like to here if anybody has messed with diffrent combos to find what nitrous likes.

I feel that power adders of any sort need a cylinder head that is unshrouded so I would go big bore, also nitrous creates so much torque that a stroker would be more difficult to keep hooked up on tracks that are less than perfectly prepped- but no one has ever seen a track that wasnt prepped well

4.16 bore and 3.67 stroke = 399 cubic inches. You would need the big Darton sleeved block and an offset ground stock crank (or a custom if you have the cash).

Thats what im thinking.Something that you can rev the **** out of.Top it off with some afr 225 and a solid roller i think i can make some power on the bottle.

4.060" if you get a good block with no core shift. Sonic testing is a must.

You gonna add around 80lbs with the iron block.
I would do a 4.125 aluminum LS1 block sleaved with a offset crank.
3.74 offset gives you 399.85.
I haven't seen a 3.74 offset crank yet but I have seen a 3.72 which would get you almost 398 cubes.
The 382 combo IMO is garbage.

Eagle makes a 3.900 crank. 4.030 x 3.900 = 398 CID.

For the money I'd go 4.005 LS2 Block and 3.75 Off set stock crank. For the big dollar I'd go 4.125 Sleeve and 3.55 or less stroke crank.

You need max bore for a class like that. High rpm (8500) and max effort high hp. I would say a 4.150 bore on a 3.7 stroke. Definitely want as much bore as possible to unshroud valves. Geared and wind it to hell. I would think a 4.88 rear gear in a solid roller 4.155 bore would make for a hell of a ride spraying out of the hole.

Good luck though as you're gonna need it with a 8.90 index that will be an extremely competitive class.

Darton 4.125" and Offset Ground Stock Crank - 3.71" stroke or so is what it comes out to 397cid. That will make more power than anything else below 400cid with the right combo. Hell, might even do more than the 408s, simply because the bore allows for so much airflow on the top end, especially if you get a valvetrain that likes 7500+rpm.

Will a stock crank be able to handle high rpms on the bottle.I would think your asking for problems but i could be wrong.

Definatly run large bore mid stroke for this appl. Maybe a 4.125 bore 3.875 stroke, with the right parts and heads you will be able to rev the hell out of the thing and get some crazy #'s. Great for spray.

Steve Demirjian @ Race Engine Development co-invented the Darton sleeve. So, I'd go with him.
