The classic version of a 408 CID LS1 is 4.030" bore and 4.000" stroke. 4.010" bore pistons will not work with a 4.030" bore block. If you go with a 4.010" bore piston and 4.00" stroke crank, you will get 404 CID.

I agree.
If you get a new block they can match the block to the pistons.
A lot of extra work if you already have a 4.030 bore done.

Well there was a great deal on some diamond ones with coating for $400, thought i'd look into it.
