Default Hate to beat a dead horse, but, heads? What do I do? Couple different questions...

First, I have to pull my heads because it looks like a lifter has broken. What are some good replacement lifters? The Comp Rs? Are the Morels worth the extra money?

Since I have to go through all the work, now would be the time to look at heads. I know AFRs are the big deal right now....but what else is out there for less money?

Patriot had some problems before, so I'd like to stay away from them. MTI's flow sheets on their site for the 2E and 2R heads dont convince me that one is any better than the other...they dont use the same scale or overlay the graphs.

Anyone have links for some decent ported LS1/LS6 heads? I guess if it came down to it, I'd like LS6 heads, but a well ported LS1 head would do the job fine too. Price?

Help me out here

i'm in the same boat as you, although a lifter didnt collapse yet, it will any time.. so figured ill throw some heads on there, while they are off
check out PRC stage 2.5 and TEA 1.5
those are the main 'contenders' that I am trying to decide between...

I'd run the comp 850-16s. R's are a little harder to setup I believe...

HPE has a nice sale going for their 5.3 heads, outstanding flow #s too..

What cam will you be running?
If no more than .600 lifts then Comp 850-16 will be fine or Crane. Comp 'R' need adjustable rockers and are a pain to set correct preload.
As for heads, I just got a set of PRC 5.3L, Stage 2.5 (2.04int/1.585exh). http://www.texas-speed.com/. Very nice CNC job and hand finished. I paid $1500 for heads/gaskets/bolts.
There seem to be a lot of competition for 5.3's lately ranging from $1095>1595 (stage 2 and 2.5's)

Of course AFR's are worth every penny invested.

I pulled the drivers side head and it turns out the lifters are fine.

Here is what I found....rocker arm parts See pics..

I checked all the lifters and they look nearly new and all the lifter bores look good. So...hmm...do I put it back together, or just do heads....???

We currently have our stage II 5.3 heads for only $1095.00 assembled per pair. These heads come with REV 2.02"/1.57" valves, orginal Patriot Gold Dual Springs, Super 7 Machined Locks, Viton Rubber Seals, Bronze or steel guides, Ti Retainers, and Machined Spring Bases. As you stated, we have had problems in the past. We have worked hard to resolve all outstanding issues. We have always worked to improve our products and will continue to do so.

These are outright, no exchange.

Here is a link to our flow numbers and all heads will come with a flow sheet.

The Morels are worth the extra money especially if the engine is going to see some higher rpm shifts.

The 5.3 heads will have 63cc chambers which will yield a 10.7-1 compression and the LS1 will have 67cc chambers which will keep you stock 10-1 compression. Both heads will have approximatley 224cc intake runners.
