Default just got the new cam in! Q about the timing chain?

TR 224 112 LSA, got it in! It souns awesome. Didn't loose any keepers or drop the oil pump bolt and it fired right up. Thanks go to RWTD for the custom tune.

My question is how much play is there supposed to be in a new timing chain? My new one has as much slack as my oroginal one did; about a half inch. Is that normal? I didn't see any signs of wear on the gears.

I guess I need to change my signature!

i bought a ls2 timing chain to replace my stocker when i changed my cam at 80,600miles. it had almost exactly the same amount of play in it as the stock one.

Congrats TD! I got the same cam and LOVE IT.

If you got the same amount of slack, I'd say you're good to go. I'd be worried if it was tighter or looser than the stocker.

They are designed to do that. i'm not a big fan of super tight double rollers (perhaps that is why I never run them). I has to do with the front cam bearings.
I have a J-Wiss and it has slack too, less than GM ones but still has some. The Le Mans poeple can't be wrong, IMO. There must be a valid reason behind that.

Ok, thanks guys. Majority rulz! Having slack is ok.

I love the way is sounds when I'm standing behind the car now. The car is a monster compared to what it was! I'm scared to really get on it. I don't have the cash to get a new rearend yet. But, when I take off and fly the clutch less than 1500RPM it studders a little. And I can't maintain less than 10 MPH in first geat without the car missing and lunging. Is this another normal thing for a cam with a stick shift? Again, thanks for the help guys!

exactlyt he same cam i have, i'm currently on the z06 clutch, but going back to a hays soon.

until you tune it, it will buck and surge, and the idle power will be weak compared to stock. it will also "hunt" for idle more. had my cam in for about 2 months before i started tuning it, drives more like stock now, wiht the exception of over 3-3.5krpm it makes alot more power. I'm not too worried about my rear end, but i dotn really dragrace much, i used to run nitto 555r2's which are pretty much the drag radial with a stiffer sidewall. now i'm running the new falken azenis, car is too much power for these tires imo, but another reason why i'm not that worried about the rear end, i cant get traction
