Broken Piston, scored or cracked sleve
I'm posting this up for a friend of mine that recently went through a bunch of SH*t with his motor now the sleve on the block looks pretty bad with some bad cracks/scarring from the piston pin rubbing on it from startup, motor locked up and broke the piston, now his goals are still go keep the stock 346 c.i.d., I am not too familiar with the machining that needs to get done to this, the motor will be taken out tommorrow, but here are a couple pics and what machine shop do u guys recommend. I have persuaded him to go with arp rod bolts while he's at it. anyone want to chime in and lead us in the right direction as to what needs to be done?
Eddie
I'll try to get some clearer pics with a digi-cam, btw the score/crack is about 1/16 of and inch and about 1 1/2 inches long

btw, it's the number 1 cylinder and i want to know if indeed we do purchase parts, should i just buy a stock piston and rod? balancing? anything like that that can set me on the way?
goals for the car are 11.00 S/I.
P.s. we know about the whole arp rod bolt dispute though

well for starters.....you can junk out the block (unless you want to go with a MID wet sleeve)......even if scored you are probably well over the max overbore of 0.010".....if cracked well that’s a no brainier.....
the crank is probubly still good and the stock crank will work making MONDO GOBS of HP (it is STRONG!!!!!! don't think anyone has ever broken one)....
toss ALL the rods in the garbage........they just don't cut it for HP.........Eagles (~$400-$500) with good bolts will take a lot of beating (seen people make 800+ rwhp with them in the mustang world)......or you can go Lunati ProBillet (~$1000) if you really plan to go nuts......
any forged piston will work....they are all the same quality....... (~$1000 for pistons, pins, and rings)...
your can also order a forged rod/piston (stock crank) 346 from one of the sponsors........ ~$3000-$3500..... https://www.horsepowerengineering.co...roducts_id=117
