Default 427 & 225 AFR heads with FAST 90 intake?

I seem to be have a major problem with trying to get my intake to seal correctly to the 225 AFR heads. The head have not been milled. No matter what I try the car will pull unmetered air on deceleration according to hp tuner readings. I've tried new gaskets, changing torque numbers, shifted the intake mm's. etc. etc. etc.............. each time I make a change a new rich or lean problem occurs on back one or two or both. My only guess is the FASt 90 intake does not match up correctly to the AFR 225 allowing small amounts of unmetered air to be pulled in due to a vacuum on deceleration. Has anyone come across this problem. Any help is welcome.

I have heard of gasket seal problems with the intake halves themselves (between top and bottom half of the FAST intake)

Assuming you decide to pull the intake, you should notice a fairly clearly defined pattern around the perimeter of each port caused by the gaskets protruding from the intake. One thing you might consider as a safety measure is to replace all eight intake gaskets with new FAST replacements.....they are slightly thicker than stock and obviously havent been crushed prior, assuming you reused your originals.

Worth a look and a few dollars to eliminate that as a possibility.

Good luck with the diagnosis...

I just bought a set from Byunspeed for $25 or so. They are a little thicker as Tony mentioned.

I'm glad I made the decision to buy new ones.

Most of the Fast intakes have severe warping on the "head mating surfaces" The front and back (cylinders 1&2 and 7&8) are the most troublesome as the bolts do not pull the intake completely flat against the head surface. We solved this with some high temp silicone on the ports surfaces affected by the curved surfaces. It has nothing to do with the brand of heads.

When you said, "some high temp silicone on the ports surfaces affected by the curved surfaces" are you saying you put silicone on the heads upper runner where the intake and the head meet?

Yes, a thin coat of silicone between the head and intake will seal these imperfections.

Are you talking about Permatex Copper or someother sealant?
