Default High oil consumption - what mods can I do?

I was planning on either heads + cam + nitrous or FI. But I'm really concerned about the current level of oil consumption, around .75 qts/1K miles. I already have a problem with pinging on hot days, can't imagine what will happen on an FI car or at higher rpms with heads + cam. But I don't want to spend on a short block, especially when my car has less than 15K miles on it. What's the best solution to reduce oil consumption, new rings?

Id try an AMW catch can with a filter inline to catch vapor. Just keep and eye on the filter and change it when its dirty or getting fallout from the vapor. I did this and have no oil consumption in 2000 miles between oil changes.

1 - Install a catch can

2 - Do **NOT** use any high flow oil filter (like K&N)

3 - Use 10W30 oil (synthetic is good, but in my car it burnt way more than usual so I went back to standard)

4 - If you abuse your car frequently check your piston rings.
