Default Aftermarket Rockers

I have full bolt-ons and a hotcam in my car. Would I benefit, power-wise from a set of aftermarket rockers?

If so what would be my best bet and what else would I need along with them?

not unless you:

a) have rockers that are falling apart
and/or
b) get higher ratio

for the money, if you want more HP, ditch the cam you have and go to something else......~$500 for rockers vs. ~$350 for a new cam

note:
most aftermaket cams can not (or REALLY REALLY REALLY should not) be used with higher ratio rockers as the ramp rates are quite fast.........stock and like stock (ie: your GM HotCam) can get away with higher ratio because they have slow ramp rates (which is why they also use LS6 springs).......

also something else, because you have 98 heads (I would think since your name says 98BirdLS1) a lot of rocker arms will not fit without clearance the heads......

now with all this said, I plan to use 1.8 rockers on my 04 Silverado IF/WHEN its stockers fall apart because I do not want to loose the "truck" capabilities (torque and smooth idle) by doing a cam......I also have Comp (made by T&D) shaft mounts on my Z28 because it is Solid Roller but that is WAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY overkill (~$900) for 99.999999999999999% people.....

yes you'll benefit from roller rockers. especially with higher ratio. here's the dyno from the wife's car with stock cam using the vinci/crane 1.8 accelerated lift rockers.
dyno 9 stock
dyno 11 500 miles
dyno 14 10 months later

I wouldn't waste the money on rockers.

Instead, ditch the baby cam and get a real one.

The hot cam is a factory cam with factory ramp rates, at only .525 lift, many people are running 1.8 and 1.85 ratio rockers with great success. Harland Sharp gets you the best bang for the buck, but Crane ,Comp,Jesel,YellaTerra, and SLP all offer higher ratio rockers.

I personally like the Cranes, I think they will also help stabilize the valve train. From some of the reading I have done, they appear to work well with the Hotcam too.

The combination of an agressive cam and adding rockers has intruiged me for some time. Now I'm not as sure. I might be off base here, however I wonder what the line is between a steep cam lift and asteep rocker, profile being similar...from an example from another tuner, there is something about where the acceleration takes effect in the rotating profile. This effect as an analogy is similar to swinging a heavy bat a bit higher that the bottom, vs swing a lighter bat from the handle, or something to that effect..

I had my cam custom ground on a SBC lobe somewhere between XE and XER with regard to ramp rate, and I'm using 1.75 rockers. Makes for a good combo

I'm running a 227/231 572/579 111 cam with 1.8 Crane quick lift gold's, so I'm at 605/612. Runs good!

You know something referring to a fast ramp than XE, yet not as steep as XER..there was an 'x' series as well, however they removed it from the catalog I think it was the 216/220 114 cam.

wondering about the ramp rate on the cam. because of all this specuation about not being able to use fast ramps with higher ratio rockers.

wonder if EDC will give up the info on your cam to check it out?

I have 1.8 Jessels with my Hotcam. You'll have to grind out the baffels in the
valvecovers, or get a set of spacers so they'll clear.
