Default Why am I burning so much oil?

I just put a new motor in my car and in 1100 miles it has burned 6qts of oil! Here is the motor and imfo:
HPE 383 eagle crank, scat rods, wiesco pistons w/ valve reliefs, patriot stage 2 ls6 heads 64 cc my compression is 10.75:1.Rest of mods in sig.I have a amw catch can and pcv on the car the catch can has filled up twice so that accounts for 3/4 of a qt of oil.One more fact for everyone the motor when warmed up only runs around 20psi of oil pressure, when it is driving it will get up 40 psi, when it is in wot it will go up to 60-70 psi then suddenly drop down to 20psi.
So anyone have any guess as to what it could be?

I would call HPE and talk to them, sounds like a bearing from your oil pressure issues, but keep in mind that new motors burn up alot of oil while being broken in.

If the oil pressure is changing that much and fast and goes from 20 to 70 psi it sounds like something with the pump or sucking air at the pickup. We only did the shortblock right and you put everything else on yourself if I am correct? Where is your PCV? Is it in the cover with the baffle off?

Thumbs up

Yeah you shouldn't really burn any noticeable amount past the first few minutes of operation in general.

First it looks like you might have a bearing problem or sucking up air as stated.Second would be the tune in the car.Was the car tuned in? I've seen people run too much timing and get alot of knock which causes the rings to flutter and then the motor never get's broken in and the rings never seat right causing serious oil consumption

It was tuned with a very safe tune w/ hp tuner. My tuner actually fixes alot of other cars here in town that have been tuned on the dyno and dont quite run right on the street.

No pics of catch can but it is the amw catch can w/ ls1 bracket bolted right to pass side head.Very simple install remove factory hose from pcv to intake and replace that piece with the amw supplied hose thats it.BTW it is black to somewhat look like a factory piece for the smog **** in CA.
