Default HELP! 4.8 to 5.3 piston swap problems

I have my 5.3 at the machine shop having some work done and they are having trouble getting my paistons off the rods without having them crack. I wouldn't worry about it but they are taking a set of 4.8 pistons (Flat top) off the stock rods to put on my 5.3 rods and they fear this will occurr on them also. Is there a trick to this procedure?

Default

They sell special tools to remove the rods from the pistons. It actually rest against the rod as you press it out and keeps from cranking the piston. A company that sells machine shop supplies by the name of Goodson sells them. As for using the 4.8 pistons, they are the same bore but may be a diiferent compression height. The 4.8 has a shorter stroke crank and to compensate this they use a different compression height.

Default 4.8 pistons

I am intentionally using the flat top 4.8 pistons to increase compression.
