Default offset ground cranks?

Where to get it done and can a (EDIT)- "offset ground" crankshaft withstand 600+rwhp on a Procharged car?

Do you mean offset ground cranks? where a crank's stroke is increased by regrinding it?

Yes. More stroke.

Thanks for all the replys. How much displacement will that push my 5.7L up to? How much is usually charged to do something like this? Also anyone know of a place in the Houston area that could do this?

any reason why you really want to offset a stock crank? It might be better to just get a 4" stroke eagle crank from one of the sponsors...

There was a article I read about doing a "cheap stroker" build, it doesn't seem like the best idea to me - I would stick with stock cubic inches or buy a full stroker rotating assembly.

I did an offset grind on my lunati crank. Cost was around 600 with offset, heat treat, and nitride/cryo treating. I went from a 4" to a 4.075" stroke. Rod journal went from 2.1" to a 2.0". I planned to use a 2" carrillo rod so I figured why not offset grind and pick up some more cubes.

If this is done like Im thinking then its gonna make the journals smaller. I would pass on that idea, especially for a supercharged setup.

One problem you are going to run into with this is that you will weaken the crank by decreasing the journal overlap. When you offset grind to GAIN stroke you are weakening the crank, not the best thing to do if you want to put more power into it. It's not just the fact of the journals being smaller, it's how much more the crank will flex if you put more power into it, rasing the piston speed and g's (by increasing the stroke) and taking strength out of it.

With a nice corner radius cut into the journal it can be strong but GM did a hell of a job with the 270° corner radius that the cut into the stock unit. I wouldn't worry about increasing the stroke on something that is not going to really notice the displacement increase but over time will notice the weaker crankshaft.

Thanks for the info and advice. I'm going to save the $ and use the stock crank as is.

Good idea.

You only have to start playing with offset grinding if you are working on adjusting the cubes to a race class, bearing speed issues or you want the crank perfectly indexed or all 3.
