Default what would happen if cometics were backwards?

I installed cometics about 200miles ago. No leaks ect. It has been on the dyno and made great power. No overheating ect. I guess Im asking if they were backwards would you know it? Could I be overheating my heads without them leaking? But then again isnt the temp sensor in the head? Could I pull the temp sensor and plug on the other side to see if coolant comes out? newb question I know. I guess im parinoid about it after reading all the threads. thanks all

No I meen if the coolant passages were covered up!!!!!! There were no instructions and im a old school big block guy, so i could have forgoten to line them up. From what ive read the gasket can be installed so that it actually covers the coolant pasages going to the heads!!!! not upside down but front to back.

I believe there are coolant holes on both ends?

Is there even a top and bottom? They look the same to me on both sides

there are coolant holes on one side of the gasket not both (front to back). The other side is blocked off. There are a couple of threads that have stated the importance of this making sure the coolant holes in the block and gasket line up.

So if you laid the gasket on the floor the left end of the gasket will have no holes and the right side you will see the floor through the coolant passages.

You can see the larger coolant holes are at the back and bottom (both sides) of the block. This is where the larger gasket holes go over... Dig that CLEAN deck!!!

thaks for the pic!!! my descriptions were confusing me. so both drivers and passengers are on the back side of the block GOOD Im pretty sure I did it right. I was getting confused by a tread that said to look at the head gasket tabs. Well I have two tabs per gasket and they are both located at the same place. Back to original question what effects could it have or would it leak imeadiately?

I thought the rivet looked the same on both sides? plus the tabs are in the exact same location. the first is located on the second bolt hole from the front. good question, would make it easier to tell if they are on right.

The rivet is smooth on one side and has a slit in the other from what I could see. I am at work now and can't see how they are installed on mine but I remember thinking to myself that one of my gaskets are on upside down. It never leaked so I didn't pay too much attention to it. Maybe my mistake when putting the heads on was a good thing....

the only thing I could tell is that the passenger head gasket rivet looks thicker(wider ring) than the drivers side(the rivet "ring" looks thinner)

im guessing the drivers, thinner gold ring passengers has a thicker gold ring. not sure if you can use this as a reference though. Pewter have you had any leaks or overheating with yours? let me know what you find.
