Default Cam with high mileage.

Ok I just got a 2000 SS about 3 weeks ago and I just ordered a 222 cam and Pacesetter headers and the car has 98,000 miles. Was this a good idea? The car seems to run strong and doesn't even have piston slap. I got the cam itch really bad because I had my other 2000 SS get totaled this April just 3 weeks after I slaved to do the cam install by myself. It had 84,000 miles when I did the cam swap on it and I didn't even put 300 miles on the set-up before the car was totaled. Do a search and you guys can see where I had posted about the install on my other SS that was totaled. So do you guys think I made a good choice in ordering a cam? I just read another post about high mileage that made me think about it.

as long as the motor is in good shape you should be fine.i've beat the hell out of my car since the day i bought it, now has over 70,000 miles.i'm running ported heads and a TR220,a 3000 stall TQ for the last 8000 miles or so and the motor still seems strong.but remember, the more horsepower you make or the more you mod your car,you will always run the risk of breaking something.even with a new car.

with that many miles, you may want to do a compression test and a leakdown test b4 puttin in a cam, although that is not a really big cam

well if it breaks you just have a reason to rebuild your motor, but all in all I think you will be fine with that cam.

I put in my TR220 this past spring at 113,000. I have 125,000 on it now. The main thing is how well the motor was taken care of.

Go for it!!!
