Why are they so lookeid down upon? I know theyre not as big as everybody is going these days but i know they have a nice lopey idle, and theyre definitely bigger than stock. what kind've numbers do people make? and 1/4 times?

Hotcam is small and doesn't make very good power compared to other cams that will drive / idle better, although it's much easier no the valvesprings then most other cams. Funny thing about the hotcam, it idles like a MUCH larger cam than it is.

Like you said...everyone is caught up in big cams, big hp #'s.
Hotcam aint that bad...and its valve train friendly.
But, as many of the guru's and junkies out there will tell you...its all relative to what you want your car to do.
I am of a dying breed...I want a torque monster (at least as much as you can expect from a small block)...hotcam is 1 of many on my ever shrinking list.
Good luck in your quest. Camworld is a scary place to visit.

Basically he is right, and everyone else that said something "nice" about the hotcam....it is a near stock spec'ed cam with the sound of a 226+. I believe that it is the LSA that makes it the way it is.
But hey, if you are gonna do a cam do it right the first time...research is key in having it perform to your expectations.

i like the fact that it is a lot easier on the valvetrain. that is a big plus for me. but as for power, i want a noticeable difference, too. doesn't it have like 15/20 more degrees duration @ .050 and have like .30 more lift? I just hear a lot of iffy comments on the tr224 to be completely into that cam. and a lot of auto guys are trying to steer me away from the 112lsa's when i really want the nice lopey idle of one. this car probably will see the track maybe once or twice in its life, i want a really nice street performer that will turn heads at idle as well. with my exhaust now i already turn heads when im movin.

You might also look into some of the older Comp Cams. Lotta folks on here that have em and with great results....some better than some of these flashy "new tech" cams. For example: 216/220 .525/.532 114lsa or 220/224 .530/.534 112lsa.
Just a thought.....Prolly the direction Im headed.
